Uncommon Concrete Swimming Pool Repairs

Description

The presentation will be focused on several actual pool restoration projects. It will include what was discovered during the investigation, development of some repair details and actual repair process during construction. Challenges on these projects were how to repair cracks in the concrete pool bottom while dealing with a water under hydrostatic pressure coming out of them; how to repair expansion joint present in the middle of the pool bottom and walls and joints that are leaking bituminous seals; how to repair lifted concrete pool deck slab caused by corrosion of steel framing below it, and how to go about the repairs with much larger extent of delaminated concrete in slabs directly above storage and equipment rooms with presence of chlorine and high voltage conduits embedded in them. Challenges imposed by material flaws and unforeseen conditions discovered during repairs methods will be presented as well.

Speaker Bio

Dunja Vla attended University of Novi Sad, Faculty of Technical Sciences, Novi Sad, Serbia, Europe, and graduated with Master Diploma Engineer Degree, Civil Engineering. She has been working Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc., in Northbrook, Illinois since 1997. Dunja worked on numerous projects from different practice areas. Some of practice areas include restoration of parking structures, water retaining structures, facade assessment, facade ordinance inspections, restoration of facades with various types of finishes as concrete, masonry and stone cladding and restoration of plazas and balconies.
